About This Tour

Escape to Nigeria's "Little Switzerland" at 1,576 metres above sea level — five days of misty mountain hiking, cable-car rides, rare primate encounters, and total rejuvenation at the Obudu Plateau.

Perched at 1,576 metres above sea level on the Obudu Plateau along Nigeria's border with Cameroon, the Obudu Mountain Ranch is one of the most extraordinary natural destinations in Africa. The plateau's cool, misty climate — averaging 18°C year-round — has earned it the nickname "Little Switzerland of Nigeria", and its combination of montane forest, sweeping highland meadows, and dramatic escarpments makes it visually unlike anywhere else in the country.

This five-day eco-retreat is designed for travellers who want something more restorative and connected to nature. Days are filled with guided hikes along the ranch's 400 km of marked trails, a cable-car ride across a 2 km valley (one of West Africa's longest), chimpanzee and drill monkey tracking in the surrounding rainforest, and farm-to-table dining at the lodge using organic produce grown on the plateau.

Accommodation is in charming chalets fitted with fireplaces and panoramic mountain-facing windows — on cool evenings, guests wrap up by a log fire and watch the clouds roll in from Cameroon. Morning yoga sessions on the escarpment, a relaxing spa treatment with locally harvested herbs, and star-gazing under an impossibly clear sky complete an experience that is equal parts adventure and deep rest.

The surrounding Becheve Nature Reserve shelters remarkable biodiversity including forest elephants, Preuss's guenon, and over 280 bird species, with the Cross River gorilla population the most critically important in the world for conservation.
